Pupil Premium – Parent/Carer Information

The government believes that the pupil premium grant, which is provided in addition to main funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between disadvantaged students and their peers by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils. The government has allocated schools a sum of money which is called the ‘Pupil Premium’. This is to ensure that all pupils, from Reception through to Year 11, are given the same opportunities to achieve and so that no pupil is disadvantaged due to economic or social circumstances.

The amount of the grant for pupils in secondary education is currently £955 per pupil and £310 for students who have a parent working in the armed forces, whilst the premium for looked after children and those adopted from care is £2345. In the academic year 2022-2023, these amounts will change as follows: £985 per pupil and £320 for students who have a parent working in the armed forces, whilst the premium for looked after children and those adopted from care will be £2410.

The groups identified as entitled to the Pupil Premium are:

  • Recorded as eligible for free school meals, or have been recorded as eligible at any point in the last 6 years (FSM Ever 6). This includes eligible children of families who have no recourse to public funds (NRPF).
  • Previously looked-after children (PLAC): pupils who were looked after by an English or Welsh local authority immediately before being adopted, or who left local authority care on a special guardianship order or child arrangements order (previously known as a residence order).

If your child has left care and you are happy to share this information with us, please contact Mrs Simpson on 01723 582194.
